Disclaimer - I am not a health professional
This one is so important that it has its own page. But here it is again.
A gentle reminder to my dear readers that i am not a health professional.
Indeed, I have not studied science formally since 4th Form (Year 10).
I have been a renal patient for a very long time, and the comments published in this weblog are based on this experience and on my discussions with other patients and health professionals.
But I am most definitely not a medical practitioner, nor a pharmacist, nor any other form of health professional.
My writings in this weblog are not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice. You should always consult a relevant health professional if you need assistance with your own medical issues.

Technical
I cannot guarantee that this blog will work on your
- browser
- computer
- internet conection
Links to external sites and blog directories/portals
I select links to other sites based on the following characteristics of the site:
- Reliability
- Relevance to the reader and the topic
- Ease of download (begone, Flash!)
- Reasonable standard of good taste for an average person
- Legality (within Australia)
But I cannot guarantee that these sites are:
- virus-free (although I would never deliberately choose a dodgy site)
- still going by the time you look at them
- legal in your country
Links to blog directories and portals are provided purely on the basis of whether I currently believe that those particular services are reputable or believable. I do not seek, nor do I receive, any money from these links.
Privacy
This blog operates under the terms of the privacy laws of Australia and of the Australian State of New South Wales - especially the Commonwealth (Australian Federal) Privacy Act.
The blog collects basic statistical data so I can decide how best to write and edit the blog for my audiences. This does not identify individuals. You can view this statistical data at
- StatCounter.com
- The little Lijit widget in this blog's template
Some other 3rd party services will maintain data that you might voluntarily choose to provide for subscription or feed purposes - like Feedblitz's email subscription box. To the best of my knowledge, these services use this data only for the purpose stated.
Statement of financial disclosure
This blog is a personal blog written and edited by me. For questions about this blog, please contact the author.
This blog does not accept any form of advertising, sponsorship, or paid insertions. I write for my own purposes, and for what I judge are my readers' purposes. However, I may be influenced by my background, occupation, religion, political affiliation or experience. (In fact I hope so, otherwise this blog would be even more boring.)
There are some links to commercial services as follows:
- The Books linked to Amazon.com: due to a nifty piece of blogging software, I can easily set up these links with thumbnails by quoting (usually) no more than an ISBN. This is very convenient for me. Also, Amazon.com includes a lot of user-generated content - mainly reviews. Many readers find this useful. But I do not get any payment for this, nor does this mean that I am endorsing Amazon.com.
- Products/services that are germane to a story: such as the Lemsip link in this post about swine flu.
- Products/services that are relevant to my readers and operate in a monopoly market: such as the CityRail train service from Sydney to Wollongong.
- Product/service links that accompany a widget on this blog: usualy the 3rd-party services linked to this blog (such as YouTube viewing frames, or the email subscription box from Feedblitz) are automatically accompanied by a link to the service. I am happy to display these as the ongoing presence of these widgets on the blog means that I am happy with these services (and be assured, folks, I have fired widgets for not working or being unsuitable).
In each of these examples, I have usual commercial relationships with these providers (ie I pay my way). If I am using a service for no charge, it is so on the same conditions as others using the same service (such as YouTube).
I don't even use commercial names of landmarks like sports grounds if i can possibly avoid this. These names change from year to year anyway, and get very confusing. I mean, where is Etihad Stadium anyway? And if you were a professional cricket player, which trophy would you rather fight for - the Pura Milk Cup or the Sheffield Shield?
The owner of this blog will never receive payment in any way from this blog.
The owner of this blog is not paid to provide opinion on products, services, websites and various other topics. The views and opinions expressed on this blog are purely the blog owners. If I claim or appear to be expert on a certain topic or product or service area, I will only endorse products or services that I believe, based on my expertise, are worthy of such endorsement. Any product claim, statistic, quote or other representation about a product or service should be verified with the manufacturer or provider.
This blog does contain content which might present a conflict of interest. This content will always be identified.
