Answers to questions on QUALIFICATIONS (p 14)
There are a total of 8 Qualification titles and 73 qualifications across the range from CertI to Vocational Graduate Diploma.
There is a general qualification in each qualification title up to Advanced Diploma (ie not Vocational GCert and Vocational GDip). In all except Cert I there are industry sectors or specialisations; the Vocational GCert and Vocational GDip contain only industry sectors or specialisations.
Skill sets are defined by the National Quality Council (NQC) as:
"Those single units or combinations of units which link to a licence or regulatory requirement, or defined industry need. Skill Sets in Training Packages are indentified by National Industry Skills Councils but Registered Training Organisations can also identify skill sets in response to the needs of enterprises or individuals. " (Source: Training.com.au)
They are further defined within the NTIS Qualification Framework for this package as follows:
Skill sets are defined as single units of competency, or combinations of units of competency from an endorsed Training Package, which link to a licence or regulatory requirement, or defined industry need.
Skill sets are described in the Overview as follows:
- Development of Skill Sets in the BSB01 Business Services Training Package within the BSB01 Small Business Management qualification
- Developing skill sets in the medical administration units and legal administration units of BSB30407 Certificate III in Business Administration. These covered medical transcription and legal transcription.
Qualification rules: I interpret this as being equivalent to the "Packaging Rules" shown under each qualification title, indicating the mix of core and minimum number of elective units that a learner must study in order to get the qualification.
The number of units needed to get a qualification vary from one qual to the next, depending on level of complexity across the qualification title. They appear to be the same withing the one qualification eg CertIV. The same unit can appear in one or another qualification.
