His current (adult education) and former (local government) careers have brought him into contact with a wide range of people. He communicates successfully with his students and guides their learning through identifying their learning needs, tailoring programs targeted to those needs, and getting people actively involved in their learning.

John's recent learning experiences as a M.Ed. and GCertTESOL student brought him into close contact with a large number of international students. His experiences in collaborating with them in formal learning and in campus co-curricular activities has shaped many of his attitudes to adult learning. This is reflected in his early research interest in their learning conditions, and continues in much of his TAFE work experiences.

John has also developed an interest in the potential of Web 2.0 to engage learners in collaborative learning. He has developed several weblogs to support his teaching, and he encourages his students to engage in this collaboration; there are links to a sample of these blogs on this CV.
