Biography

John Daley is an adult educator.

He holds the following qualifications from the University of Wollongong:

- Graduate Certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), awarded in 2009

- Master of Education degree, majoring in adult education & training, conferred With Distinction in 2005

- Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in history and English language, conferred in 1980

In addition, John holds the following Graduate Diplomas:

- in Local Government Management, awarded by Deakin University in 2002

- in Librarianship, awarded by the University of New South Wales in 1981

He presently works in a casual (contract) capacity for TAFE New South Wales. He is currently delivering programs at Campbelltown and Granville Colleges; previously he has done so at Bankstown and North Sydney Colleges and at Chullora Annexe.

His current (adult education) and former (local government) careers have brought him into contact with a wide range of people. He communicates successfully with his students and guides their learning through identifying their learning needs, tailoring programs targeted to those needs, and getting people actively involved in their learning.

John's recent learning experiences as a M.Ed. student brought him into close contact with a large number of international students. His experiences in collaborating with them in formal learning and in campus co-curricular activities has shaped many of his attitudes to adult learning. This is reflected in his early research interest in their learning conditions, and continues in much of his TAFE work experiences.

John has also developed an interest in the potential of Web 2.0 to engage learners in collaborative learning. He has developed several weblogs to support his teaching, and he encourages his students to engage in this collaboration; there are links to a sample of these blogs on this CV.

This work was acknowledged in 2008 when John received the North Sydney College Direcor's Certicicate of Recognition. This was for teaching innovation in his work on flexible delivery design in the Communication strand of the Plumbing Diploma program.

John seeks to develop his adult teaching/learning in the area of English as a 2nd Language.
